Payne Avenue ChurchOur History

Trinity Baptist Church was founded in 1873 by eight European immigrants, seven Swedes and one German. Services were first held at the First Baptist Church of St. Paul. When it was realized that the large influx of Swedes didn't know English and there was a great need for religious services to be held in their native language, the First Swedish Baptist Church had begun. There were two smaller church buildings occupied before a large building was erected in 1898 at Payne and Sims Avenues in the middle of the immigrants living area and within walking distance for most of them.

The name changed to Trinity Baptist Church when the church moved to its present location in Maplewood, Minnesota in 1963. Several churches have been started as outreach ministries during the existence of the church. The last church supported was the new church in Chigirin, Ukraine, which was dedicated in August, 1999.
