A Special Welcome From Pastor Ken LewisAt Trinity Baptist Church we say, "We are a church family growing to be Christ's disciples." What does that mean? First of all, it affirms that we are part of a church family, a group of imperfect human beings who are part of something larger than themselves. The family doesn't belong to certain people, but to Christ, who is our Head. In the family we have people of all ages, temperments and abilities being part of a family dedicated to serving the One who has given us life both physically, and when we receive Him as our Savior and Lord, spiritually. So if you are looking for a place that is just like you in every respect, where everyone thinks like you, looks like you, worships like you, and shares all your opinions, Trinity is not likely to be the place for you. If, on the other hand, you are open to being part of a family with different ages, races, stories and perspectives on life, Trinity may be a good home for you. We've talked about the differences in our family, but what unites us? We are united around the conviction that Jesus is Lord and we are His followers. This means that we're not united by allegiance to a dynamic pastor, a particular worship style, or a particular age, gender, economic, political or racial demographic. What unites us is the Lordship of Christ and His presence in our lives. Following Jesus calls us to know and practice God's will, and He has revealed His will in the Bible. Therefore we make much of the scriptures in our church life. We also make much of prayer since we need the power of God's Spirit in order to put into practice what God says. But at the very foundation we're Bible people, concerned less with the latest trends and buzz, and more with the timeless Truth found in Scripture. We also spend a lot of time making much of God. The family doesn't belong to us. It's God's. It doesn't exist for its own sake but for His. It doesn't exist to make us feel good but to glorify God, which as we grow in discipleship we discover brings us far greater joy than we could have ever hoped for by pursuing our own agenda. So you will see at Trinity, we place a great deal of emphasis on worship, prayer and the study of God's word. We hope to model that what matters most is what God thinks and how we can make more of Him today than we did yesterday. That, after all, is what God's family is all about. Perhaps you might come to believe that it's the type of family you need to call your own too. We welcome you to do so. Pastor Ken Lewis
